Cat Musing

Here are the cat poems by the cat lovers from all over the world. If you would like to be featured here please use the form at the bottom of this page to send us your cat poetry.

Tom Herzberg, from Saginaw in USA sent us this poetry. "This poem is about my first and only cat I have ever known. I never fancied cat's until this lil' guy came into my life, quite by chance.":

I'm a kitty named Peewee Mcgee,

I was born underneath a pine tree,

I'm a tuxedo cat, without any hat,

nor will a collar ever be on me!

Though I am ferel(i live in a barrel), but i have someone that surely loves me.

He makes sure I am well fed,

I get cat food, water, and a bed,

when the weather gets cold,

I have his sweatshirt that's old,

it's where I lay my sleepy head.

Now you might think "oh that poor cat",

but I tell you that's not where I'm at.

I'm lucky be, right here where I'm free,

and actually I am getting quite fat!

Ian Mole, an English teacher from London sent us this clever, humourous poem:

THE CATS OF ISTANBUL

The cats of Istanbul are most

  happy when they’re full

    so don’t think it

      indiscreet if they hover at

        your feet while soliciting

             a treat.

They may thank you with a purr

or let you stroke their fur

   before slinking down the street.

The cats of Istanbul are quite

  simply wonderful

so don’t ever be afraid if

     they turn up on parade

       while you sip your lemonade.

They may greet you with “miaow”

   or take a furry bow

     as they breach your barricade.

The cats of Istanbul are just

 anything but dull so

don’t judge them at first glance

  before giving them a chance

to include you in their dance.

T.S.Eliot agreed

that cats are what we need

    to help soothe our

      circumstance.

Simon Marshland from Bath in the UK says: " A scribbler by inclination I'm not happy unless writing something from poems to books."

EPITAPH FOR EARTHA
Author: Simon Marshland

( A most distinguished cat )

When I lived in London in a Mews called Fairfax Place

Life was good although in food I did indulge

I was black as I recall with white whiskers on my face

And my tummy had a most distinctive bulge

Now I've left all that behind and forgive me if I say so

But I'm really most impressed with where I am

For in place of studded collar I've a gorgeous furry Halo

And I've met a most attractive Tom called Sam

"Kind, cute and smilie" Jessica from the USA has sent us this lovely little poetry:
Cats are small,
Cats are cute,
Cats are liveing in a house with you,
In your socks,
In your shoes
Or even playing in a box with you!

Rebecca Deering is from Pittsburgh in the USA: "I am the human of Maizy and a fan of www.mythreecats.com"

My cat ate a bug
She puked it on the rug
She smiles because ive seen it
She prances 'round while i clean it
Its green and chunky on the surface
I think she did it on purpose

Hayley McIvor is from Downpatrick in Ireland: "My name is Hayley McIvor and I wrote this for my cat called Pebbles because he is very lasy and he sleeps a lot too!"

PEBBLES

Pebbles sleeps everywhere
Every table, every chair
Top of the panio, window ledge
In the middle or on the edge
Anywhere he doesn't care
Pebbles sleeps anywhere

Bob Rogers from Cardiff in UK: "I am a songwriter and performer and this is a tribute to my 'Beautiful Friend' Suki who left me for a better place after fifteen years."

MY BEAUTIFUL FRIEND

Click here to hear Bob Rogers singing this moving song himself:

Thank you so much for sharing it with us, Bob.

The sun is still rising behind a grey curtain,
And the cold autumn grass drips with spider-web dew,
Darkness is falling each day ever earlier,
Without thinking, I still look for you.

I never had to look too far to find you,
Wherever I was then I knew you’d be near,
You didn’t need words to tell me you loved me,
The music was easy to hear.

History took us on a long ride together,
Down through the years countless days without end,
Now I have to travel without you beside me,
And I miss you, my beautiful friend.

You filled my days with the joy of your presence,
It shattered my heart to set your soul free,
But somewhere I know at the end of this journey,
In the sunshine, you’re waiting for me.

Memories warm but they don’t take your place,
And the dreams only fill me with pain in the end,
But we’ll have forever to walk in the garden,
Me and my beautiful friend.

Bob Rogers  27.10.08

This is a very moving tribute to a very special cat, obviously. Here is a link to Bob Rogers My Space where you can hear more of his songs. http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=125253251

Tammy from the UK
In memory of my loved cat Kitty, who sadly was taken away from me.

I dream of the day I reunitite with you,
I dream that i will never,
That nightmare i get now and again,
That you've gone forever.

A part of me died,
And all i can do is cry,
The thing that hurts the most is,
I never have a chance to say goodbye.

I guess it's time to face the truth,
Thats it's all come to any end,
I didn't just loose a cat,
I lost my best friend.

I love you so much, I miss you Kitty.

Brennan Gogol from Tracey Mills in Canada: "My name is brennan gogol and I love cats and their air of curiosity and their regal aspect."
I press into your damp fur
wettened by the crisp rain
in songs
i promised you i would always return.
i ran
ran
until i saw your
bleak shape.
black and fuzzy
with raindrops lashing my skin
i ran up to you
and held you
close.
i breathed in the smell of earth
moss and soil and sky and rain and clouds.
you stare at me intensely
with intellegent curiousity.
your wire-like whiskers
and flattened against your
slender nose.
the black tail wraps around my
fingers
like a tight snake.
icy droplets
splatter on my arms
and lick
my cats nose.
she snuffles into
my sweater
and i touch her softly
on the ears
and say
I always wanted
a cat so beautiful.
a purr escaped
the resides of her mouth
brilliant gleaming fangs
a worst nightmare to her prey.
she seemed to say
she couldnt
wish for anyone more
caring.
so there i sat
curled up with her
cradled precariously in my arm
her damp fur glistening
with shining drops
of ice.
i fall
to sleep and dream
of her.
i then awake
to yellow warmth on my skin
my cat sleeping soundly.
i awake her
and we begin
the long
trek home.
i stand
she stands
and we walk
alone,
but together
as one
whole
shadow.

Sydney from South Africa:"Hi, I'm an aspiring poet and writter in general. I like expressing myself in writing, and was inspired by my high school English teacher who always acknowledged my work, and made me believe in myself."

DAYDREAMING

I sleep astride on a bed, she is insular
Wake up to the heads of the Masters of the universe
Insuperable even by the intrepid men
When I open my mouth they all assent
My words are wrapped in a crystal
The land knows they are invaluable
I carry a heavy load in the mind
My posture full of pride
But it's just the intuition in me
My hands a gold processor
My sleep, my walk, my eat, all on probation
Every thirst I quench with a click
Boy! Dontt make me come there
I didn't make my little bed.

CJ Jones from Holly Springs in USA: "My name is CJ and I like to dabble alittle with poetry. I don't write as much as I use to, but having a Cat as wonderful as mine does inspire me quite a bit. This particular piece I wrote was inspired by the passing of my Princess Cassiecats online husband PJ. He passed 6 short weeks after there wedding. He was 16 years old.
This was written in Kitty language, note the furs in this piece.
Thank Mew :)
We hope you enjoy it."

HEAVENS RAINBOW
Written By: CJ Jones fur PJ Fur His Parents..

Hello My Dear Mommy & My Daddy Too,
I am up here in Heaven just Thinking Of You.
I wanted to tell you all about my fun trip,

and what all happened when I got here, I am about to just flip!

I was carried by Angels so very way up high,
I hadn't my wings yet so I couldn't fly.
They carried me over the clouds high above,
I have never seen anything so magical, there is so much to love.

Their wings are like fans, giant and light,
they flew me all over, everything is so bright.
I was greeted by Jesus, he took my small paw.
In just one single touch he healed me all.

I can run, jump and play, I feel pain no more,
and I am happy to be here
Oh what a joy.

Oh what a beautiful place that it is here,
the best thing about it is alot of my furriends are near.

I was greeted by Angels all about,
singing in harmony and the occasional out of tune shout..
Angel Puppies & Kittens are all over the place,
they have such tiny wings, what a beautiful sound they make.

MPP, Pachu and the Tweak,
they are all right here, gosh this is neat!
.Over there is Calub, he is giving doggie rides,
I wish you could see him, this is such a delight.
Rides to the wee ones, they are having such fun,
he is like a puppy again he will never get done.

The view is amazing, I can see all.
I look down below and give out a small call.
Can you hear me dear mommy, this is so great,
why didn't I come sooner? Why did I wait?

Thank You fur all the love that you gave,
Always caring fur me, I sure had it made.
I'm sorry I left you there, furgive me please,
but if you could see what I see you would drop to your knees.

I promise to think about you every single day,
I will also stop in when I am out that way.
You will know when I am there, you will feel my presence,
where I am now is a wonderful blessing.

So weep if you must, but please keep it brief,
celebrate my life, and just remember me.
Take care of my bride, she feels so alone,
Tell her I am happy and that I will see her soon.

Fur I will visit her as well,
when she least expects it I will tug on her tail.
This Rainbow place is amazing and fun,
my life isn't over it has just begun.

I will be here to meet you in the following years,
never furgetting you I will greet you right here.
So farewell to you my wonderful parents,
I send Lots of angel kisses to you from the Heavens.

All My Love, PJ

Karen Post from Edmonton in Canada: "A Family member recently had to put down a beloved cat. After speaking with God in prayer, I was inspired to write the following words. Please feel free to post this as it is my hope that it will bring comfort to those filled with grief. Written Dec. 15th, 2007."

To My Mom & Dad With Love (A Cat's Eulogy)

Don't be sad you had to end my pain
And know that you will see me once again
God-s given me a place to wait for you
And you know what? He says He loves me too!!!

There's lots of different critters all around
In Heaven there's no evil to be found
So all of us just seem to get along
And Angels serenade us with their songs

People here are kind they stroke my fur
And they all seem to love it when I purr
I'm no longer sick so I am glad
Please don't fill your days by being sad

I haven't really gone that far away
And I'm really looking forward to the day
That we can be together up above
In this land of peace and happiness and love

Christy Riley from Macon in USA : "I have shared my life with several cats over the years, but this one, Casper, has really stolen my heart."

Casper

My little kitten
With eyes so blue.
You stole my heart
The moment you were born.
Making me laugh,
Making me cry,
Trouble and mischief
Keep me worrying.
But your purr and
Your love make it worthwhile.
Our bond is special,
Forever, deep, and true
My little kitten
With eyes so blue.

Tina Koshmarecek is an amateur poet from Prague and the big fan of cats. She is studying to became a translator which explains her brilliant English. She has two black cats at home who often inspire her to write. Here is her winning poetry:

On the roof
In the dark
Against the background of the sky
Sits a cat
As a black spot
And waits for the moon to rise
And she gazes
At the sky
And the sky gazes back at her
With the starry eyes
Of the Big Cat
Right up from the Milky Way.
